Friends of Strings

Parent and student involvement is key to the success and tradition of excellence in our Strings program.

Friends of Strings provides support from everyday things like volunteer help with sizing students for orchestra uniforms, to big events like organizing trips to regional competitions, to the really big things, like funding performance space for the Spring Festival so that the concert remains free for attendees.

We also support the music faculty, making life better for the dedicated educator musicians who anchor our program. 

The Alamo Heights Strings Program is one of the finest string orchestra programs in Texas. It offers instrumental instruction, low-cost instrument rental, and musical education experiences to AHISD students from grades 4-12. Friends of Strings is the Alamo Heights Strings Program booster organization, providing fundraising and organizational support to maximize the Strings Progam’s resources.

The Spring Plant Sale is Friends of Strings’ largest fundraiser. Its success is reliant on the participation of Alamo Heights students, parents, and the greater Alamo Heights community. 

The Spring Plant Sale began in the mid 1990’s. It has grown to provide the majority of Friends of Strings’ yearly fundraising, nurturing Alamo Heights young strings musicians for over 2 decades.

Friends of Strings has once again partnered with independently owned and operated small business Nectar Bar to offer Monarch Champion Habitat Kits. These beautiful native plants are grown right here in San Antonio. Our bestselling annuals, herbs, and vegetables are also available for purchase, along with some new additions. Every plant and Monarch Champion Habitat Kit purchase contributes to the sustainability of our Strings Program, supports local small businesses, and helps our environment. 

Plant Sale orders will be taken from January 3rd to January 22nd, 2023. Plant Sale pickup will be at Alamo Heights Junior School and The Nectar Bar (1604/Bulverde) on Saturday, April 1, 2023.

Membership

By joining Friends of Strings, you help support music education through one of the finest string orchestra programs in the state of Texas. With your gift, you help our dedicated music faculty maximize their resources, keeping the program a great experience for as many students as possible. Friends of Strings sponsors competitions and scholarships, encouraging young musicians to reach for their potential. The group also raises funds to host the annual district-wide concert, a highlight of the year for our students and families. We also make enrichments like day trips and group tours possible, giving students opportunities to simply have a good time together.
